Go “Headlong Into the Apocalypse” with Emilia Barrosse!
Since returning to her hometown of Los Angeles after her college graduation, my daughter Emilia has been honing her craft as a standup comedian.
For the past couple years, Emilia has been earning laughs and developing her unique material in performance at comedy clubs in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
Among the many clubs she’s played in Los Angeles are the famous Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip, The Formosa in West Hollywood, Flappers in Burbank, The Federal Bar in North Hollywood and The Leche Lounge in Silver Lake.
Now, Emilia is adding the Main Stage at iO West to that list.
If you’ve been among the many wonderful folks who’ve come out to see her club gigs, you’ve Emilia do 7-minute sets – 12 minutes or so when she’s headlining the show.
This time she’s doing her first full-length show: an hour of offbeat, satiric and highly original standup comedy on July 8, 9 and 10.
All shows are at 7:00 PM at iO West, located at 6366 Hollywood Boulevard.

Our Standup Comedienne: Year Two
Our very funny daughter Emilia is just beginning her second year in the challenging world of standup comedy. My wife and I have always been sketch comedians, getting our laughs onstage behind the façade of a series of characters. But not Emilia…
Emilia goes it alone, as herself, microphone in hand – with nothing but her own wit to rely on. She’s a brave girl. And she’s getting pretty damn good at this standup thing.
Emilia’s first year behind the mike has been busy. In Southern California, she’s played all three rooms at The Comedy Store, The Formosa Café, Leche Lounge, Café HaHa, and Flappers in Burbank, among others. She’s also played several clubs in Chicago and NYC.
If you haven’t seen her perform yet, you’ll have lots of opportunities to catch her act in the Los Angeles area this month.
On April 2, she’ll be hosting an evening of standup comedy at the Leche Lounge, upstairs at Café Malo in Silver Lake.

In fact – here’s a good idea: print the poster and tape it to your refrigerator. That way, you’ll have Emilia’s smiling face to look at as you get milk for your cereal – and you’ll be reminded of when and where she’s playing this month. See you there!

This Week: An Emilia Comedy Trifecta!
For the first couple of decades that my wife and I lived in Los Angeles we rarely went to nightclubs because we were raising children. We rarely went over the Santa Monica mountains to enjoy the nightlife in Hollywood – or all the way to Silver Lake.
However, now that the kids we raised are (somehow) all performing in nightclubs, we find ourselves going out to all those entertaining spots we missed while hovering over our babies.
This week, we’ll be hitting the clubs three times to see our very funny daughter Emilia work the crowds with her standup comedy act.
On Monday May 19 at 8:00 PM, Emilia will perform in “The Comedy Madness Show” in the Main Room at the famous Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip.
You can’t get tickets online for this one – so you’ll just have to get in line behind me and get them at the club.
On Thursday May 22 at 8:00 PM, she’ll be knocking them dead at the Leche Lounge in the Malo Cantina on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake.
If you come to the gig at the Leche Lounge you’ll want to come early enough to enjoy the food at Malo Cantina. It’s tasty, spicy Mexican cuisine that will fortify you for the night of laughter ahead.
And on Friday May 23 at 10:00, she’ll be back at The Comedy Store, appearing on the bill in The Belly Room.
So, come on out and enjoy my daughter Emilia’s unique brand of comedy.
I’ll be there. I’ll be that guy laughing and having fun with a glass of wine in my hand who no longer needs to hire a babysitter in order to go to a nightclub.
Because my baby is on the bill.
