A Practical Homecoming

Vic & Paul are back in Evanston — and ready to join with our friends Dana Olsen, Steve Rashid and the Studio5 All-Stars for “Vic & Paul & Dana’s Post-Pandemic Revue.”

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because we were in Evanston last year to do this show — but the Omicron variant ran rampant while we were in rehearsals, making our show anything but “Post-Pandemic”. In fact, we had to cancel the show before it opened — on the same day that the Goodman Theatre and North Light were closing up shop.

Since then, Victoria and I have moved back to Evanston (for good!) and we’re back in rehearsals, polishing up an even better version of the show — with some new comic twists!

The Practical Theatre is back in operation on Chicago’s North Shore. And this time, we’re sticking around to keep the laughs coming on a regular basis.

But first — get your tickets for “Vic & Paul & Dana’s Post Pandemic Revue.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, October 28th

For tickets go to: https://www.studio5.dance/calendar

“Vic & Paul & Dana’s Post-Pandemic Revue” is a smart comedy cocktail, mixing music, variety, and vaudeville — stirring in everything from marriage to cancel culture, whoopie cushions, conspiracy theories, Greek gods, William Shakespeare and more. An intoxicating comic combination!

There’s no better place to enjoy a comedy revue with your favorite friends than Evanston’s own Studio5 Cabaret, which has comfortable seating, state of the art sound and lights, and acres of free parking!

Operated by Bea and Steve Rashid, Studio5 is located at 1934 Dempster Street in Evanston. (It’s on the southwest corner of Dempster and Dodge, adjacent to Dance Center Evanston.)

Emilia’s First Comedy Special…

Readers of this blog are doubtless aware that one of my three daughters is a standup comic – and that she appeared this summer in her first comedy special, filmed at iO West in Hollywood. (What? You somehow managed to miss all those promotional posts?)

1226306Emilia drew three wonderful, receptive houses that weekend, July 8-10 — but for those who didn’t get a chance to see the show (and for those who’d like to re-live it) – this video captures all the fun.

Emilia’s been performing her unique brand of comedy in clubs from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York City – and San Francisco, too. The material she wrote and knit together for “Headlong Into The Apocalypse” is the very funny fruit of her first couple of years working in the comedy vineyards.

e-cropSo, if you’ve got a little less than 45 minutes of free time on your hands – and you could some laughs focused refreshingly above the waist – check out “Emilia Barrosse: Headlong Into The Apocalypse.”

And if any of you know Donald Trump, please forward him a link to this video. He’ll hear his name a couple of times.

We know how much he enjoys that.

Eva B. Ross @ The Hotel Cafe

If you haven’t seen my singer-songwriter daughter Eva in performance yet – this is the gig to see.

I don’t know much about the music scene in Los Angeles, but I understand that it’s a big deal to play The Hotel Café. It’s evidently one of the cools gigs to get. And Eva’s got it.

So, check Eva out at The Hotel Café. The show just happens to be on my birthday, Saturday April 16th at 9:45. (Sure it’s a late start – but you can sleep in on Sunday, right? Besides, it’s my birthday, remember?)

Eva’s very talented UCLA friend, Nick Valentini, is also on the bill with his eclectic and tasty band. I’ve seen Nick and his crew perform – and they’re brilliant!

It’s going to be a legendary night of great music.

So, be there. Victoria and I will be — and we hope to see you all there.
